Story of My Life

My name is Michelle Nguyen and I grew up in San Gabriel, CA aka Asian Central. I am a sarcastic and blunt person. I tend to say things to people without really thinking and sometimes hurt people’s feelings and I don’t realize it. Therefore, if you’re a sensitive person then please do stay away from me. I still think that the Dayquil is still affecting me because I want to do a dual degree for a BA in Graphic Design and a BS in Computer Information Systems.
As an extremely spontaneous person, I'll see how my goal to dual degree will last. Random fact, I love pancakes.

The Life of a Super Star

For the first 16 years of my life I lived in a deep rooted supportive community in Portland, Oregon, and on my 17th year I made a decision that would affect and change my life. During my sophomore year at Central Catholic High School I discovered a deep passion and desire to pursue the game of golf, and in doing so I came across an opportunity that not all are fortunate enough to have. As the idea grew into a thought that developed into reality I saw something happening that I could never of dreamed of before. All my life I had lived in the same state, the same city, the same neighborhood and in the same house until now. I was confronted with a choice to move out of my tightly knit community that had supported me all my life and progress into a big world of discovery and change. I was to move to the opposite side of the country to a place that was completely unfamiliar to my family and me. This whole opportunity came around so quick that we were flustered by the whole thing and made our move quickly to get acclimated as soon as we could.

Before I knew it I was in Sarasota, Florida soaking up the sun and living my new life that I had to earn and work for. The only way I was to be permitted to go to Florida to attend school was if I was to bring all my grades a full letter grade up, and so I did. In Florida I attended the David Ledbetter Golf Academy at IMG Academies playing golf and practicing my academics as a junior in high school. All my life I could never have imagined moving out of my house or neighborhood then to think that I was to move out of the state was outrageous. So as a new Floridian I was quite shy and consumed by my studies and athletics. As I became more comfortable I made my true progress towards becoming a successful adjusted student athlete in my new territory. Not until the end of the year could I really call it my home. It took a long while for me to get over the fact that I was no longer living in little Portland, Oregon and now in sunny Sarasota, Florida. On my first day at the academy I quickly discovered how well I was prepared by my private catholic school to adjust to any scenario that was presented to me. Also I found that compared to all the other countries represented at the academy, Americans were the minority. So I was thrown right into a new world of understanding my new foreign friends and the surroundings we were in. I was completely consumed by golf, school, golf, physical fitness, golf, and social building classes. I was given the opportunity of a lifetime to grow and mature like no other peer of mine had been offered.

The year was flying by faster than I could ever have anticipated and I loved every minute of it. As the year was coming to a close I came to a realization that I had changed into a young adult with goals and desires that would push me to do things I never could of seen me doing before. Now that the year was over it was time to come back home and come to peace with my old normal life in Portland, Oregon. It was better than ever! I came back as a celebrity that had not been seen in ages. It was so great to see all my great friends and get back into touch with the real me that I had lived with all my life. Now I was just an evolved better version with many more experiences and a new outlook on life. My immersion back into the community flowed smooth and I was right back into the swing of things before I knew it.

When I began my Chapman studies last year, I was an undeclared student. Therefore, to determine which field fit my interests, I enlisted in a wide range of courses; and through that process I came to discover my professional talents. I have recognized my drive for business marketing and passion for public relations. I am known by my advisors and peers to be very personable with strong ideas, opinions and the passion to pursue them, along with that, the desire and knowhow to bring diverse groups of people together. Just recently I took on a PR internship with a Southern California firm, Serrato+Co., owned by Chapman graduate Gabriel Serrato. It has been an amazing experience thus far working closely with him and other professionals in the PR field. In a half year I have already learned about the industry, tactics in creating true relationships, and the ethics involved. I know there is much more to learn but I am confident that through my internship and studying in the Dodge College that I will gain sharp knowledge of what I need to do to succeed. I am dedicated to pushing myself towards a career in PR and Marketing.

Martha Cowley

Well Hello!
My name is Martha Cowley and I am currently a junior at Chapman. I'm currently in pursuit of a BA in Art and I am hoping to minor in photojournalism. My emphasis is in photography and my work mainly deals with identity and how we define ourselves both internally and externally. My most recent project is dealing with how Chapman students define themselves within their perspective majors.

There is not a doubt in my mind that I am a visual learner. I have always had a difficult time expressing myself verbally which is why sometimes I come off as shy. However I really believe this class is going to help myself and others in verbal communication. In no way will it be easy, but I am up for the challenge. Bring on verbal communication!

INT. LIVING ROOM - DAY

The room is a smattering of culture, bits of thrifted treasures covering the walls and mantle. TYLER PAVEY (21, film student, director) sits on the couch in the center of the room, his feet kicked up on the coffee table and a netbook on his lap. He takes a moment to gather his thoughts and begins to type.

TYLER (V.O.)
To put it most simply, I am a storyteller, a screenwriter,
an avid reader, and a big eater. I'm a music listener, a trip
taker, an often chiller, and a time filler.

The front door opens and GRAY (21, housemate, editor) enters the house, a backpack on.

GRAY
Sup, bro?

TYLER
Kickin it, man. Just kickin it.

Gray wanders upstairs. Tyler returns to his work.

TYLER (V.O.)
I'm a record spinner with a keen sense of personal taste
and an overall lack of bare space due to too many
collections and impulse buys, each a reminder how much
time flies.

Before Tyler can finish his thought, ALAN (22, housemate, cinematographer) wanders down the stairs over to a fish tank filled about a quarter full. He drops a couple bits of food in, which are devoured by WRIGLEY, a feisty turtle.

ALAN
Gym?

TYLER
Yes. God yes, just give me a minute to finish this up.

ALAN
Alright. I'll get my shorts on.

Tyler returns to his work.

TYLER (V.O)
I'm a loyal friend, one who will be there to the end, but
hopefully it will never come to that because I will live
forever. Sometimes I don't make sense, and others too
much. I am soon to graduate, an often idealist, a part time
cynic, but above all a thinker.

Satisfied, Tyler clicks "Publish Post".

A link to my other blog

I told our professor I would send him this link, but I figure why not send it to all of you.

That's my website where I post a new Critique every other Tuesday morning and an in depth critique comparing a movie to its source material once every month. The second critiques are farther between because they are usually longer than most final papers I've written. Feel free to become members and rip my critiques apart.

Caitlyn Scherr

My name is Caitlyn and I'm a freshman. I'm from socal, specifically Thousand Oaks and Valencia. I'm a health science major, changing to psychology, possibly adding sociology. I have done competitive cheer for 7 years but had to stop because of the amount of injuries I had. My parents weren't too happy after my 4th concussion. I am the only redhead in my family. Everyone has brown hair and blue eyes. I really like tattoos. I have one and I plan to get 4 more. That's basically it.

My name is Adam Oke and I am an undeclared freshman here at Chapman. I live in Sonoma, California but I grew up in Redwood City, California. Although I do not know exactly what I plan to do with my life, I want to pursue my interests in electronic music and film here at Chapman. I enrolled in Writing in the Electronic Environment to fulfill my GE requirements, but after the first lecture I am very excited to see what this semester holds in store for this class.

Tara Walker

My name is Tara and I am a senior Film Studies student. I am originally from Sunnyvale, CA but I have moved around a bit and lived in Sydney, Orlando, and London. I spend a lot of time commuting from Orange County to Los Angeles for film and television internships. I am excited to learn about blogging and electronic writing in this class because I haven't really tried many of the different forms (besides wikipedia).

First Assignment

Hi, my name is Nathan Ng. I am a late admit spring freshman and my major is economics. My hometown is South Pasadena ( only a few minutes from the Rose Bowl and the parade route). Ironically, despite being interested in the latest gizmo's and gadgets, I have taken this course merely for its GE requirements

About Me

Hi my name is Russell Yu. I'm a Freshman that was newly admitted to Chapman in the Spring and I'm currently undecided regarding my major. The one thing that I really enjoy doing is playing tennis and I really want to try out for the Chapman team. I'm taking this course because it sort of fit the schedule and it sounded interesting in the course description.

First Assignment

My name is Andy Salcido. I'm a 22 year old senior lacrosse player here at Chaptown. I am a Communications Studies major and Leadership minor. I'm a California boy, and when I'm not at school or playing lacrosse I gym and try to get out and party and have fun with my boyz. I am taking this class entirely out of necessity for credits, and a couple of my teammates said it was pretty enjoyable.

My name is Tim, but I shall soon change it to Kei King Keeran (mostly so I can sign all my checks KKK so that no one will ever want to cash my checks ^_^). I was a computer science major, now I'm a creative writing major. I spend most of my time work on my reviews for lakewatcher productions, or online role playing to increase my writing ability.

Any remaining time is devoted to video games and tv shows.
